Unadorned, utilitarian or a pared-back aesthetic, call it what you like, but some of Spring’s new finds show a distinct leaning towards an industrial vibe. Wrought iron, copper, zinc and wood are reworked into factory-style designs that sit perfectly in a domestic environment. This look is about working parts being on show - an unapologetic display of hardware and a rawness that only adds to the natural charm of the piece. Get the look….

We have some new products to add to Loop the Loop so had a photoshoot today. Afterwards, while editing the photos, I thought I would put a couple of the photos on here together with some advice on how to achieve the ‘look’. I love the rustic, industrial, Scandi style with it’s natural tones of colour and materials. I particularly like the contrast between wood and metal/zinc or glass. Here at Loop the Loop we try to keep it very simple and let the quality and design of the products do the talking so to speak. If you would like to try a similar look in your home I would recommend starting with a solid, simple piece like this zinc topped sideboard and then add timeless pieces such as wooden shoe lasts or these gorgeous white washed terracotta bowls. A vase of freshly cut flowers is the perfect finishing touch.

A creative office space

To get the year off to a good start there is nothing better than having a clear out and sorting the chaos in your home. I decided that the best place to start was to reorganise our Loop the Loop office and bring some order to the towering piles of boxes and files which had gradually been accumulated and dare I say it taken over.

It’s the getting started that tends to be the daunting part, but having made a logistical plan in my head I got started. By the end of the afternoon all the files were neatly and orderly arranged, the floor space was clear, rubbish put out and a new desk and work space created. It actually didn’t take that long and once I was done I felt extremely satisfied and couldn’t wait to do some work!

Following my epic office clear out I thought I’d find and share some ideas for creating a light and stylish working environment. I love desk lights, particularly the industrial vintage style ones such as Anglepoise lamps. They are well made, elegant and practical too. These types of lights also look good in both a modern or traditional style office and I would highly recommend them.

Storage is also important and there are so many options. I like the rustic style and old vintage filing cabinets can look fabulous. So too can reclaimed wooden apple crates which can either be stacked on top of each other or screwed to a wall in a group to optimise storage space for books and files.

For which ever look you prefer accessories and stationary are key. I personally go for simple shaped objects like these pencil holders, but a great look can be easily achieved by displaying your desk sundries such as scissors, rulers etc on the wall above your desk.

The options are endless and I could continue on this topic for much longer, for the meantime however, I hope this gives you some inspiration of what can be achieved in your own office.
